Medical websites can be a bit dry, so I added this page to shake things up a little. Herein lie a few of my nonprofessional pursuits. Some border on the absurd, if not downright crazy, but each is meant to provide you with a better idea of who I am. One may ask, "Why would anyone, let alone a doctor, write a book unrelated to his calling, paint bizarre pictures, or run grueling, painful distances., often in his bare feet? It makes no sense! And what does any of this have to do with medicine?" Quite frankly, they're all quite pleasurable and at times exciting.
Besides, many patients ask me about my non-medical interests.I share these to help them discover that same joy in their own way a bit of unconventional therapy, so to speak, beyond the colder, scientific realm of hardcore medicine. I stay curious, try to keep a sense of humor and risk being foolish. I blend in my passion for art and writing, displaying some of my art where I work. I write and illustrate our educational content used in-office and online, often with an unorthodox—you might say weird—approach.
Any worthy goal a person aspires to achieve shapes his or her character, especially when it comes with great effort and toil, or seems insanely crazy, even on the verge of stupidity. This is just another testament of human capability, that human potential in all its forms is unlimited. Along with the study of medicine, these "other" interests remind doctors like myself of the sublime beauty around us, and being well-rounded helps us provide the best possible care for the people we are privileged to serve.
