Art, Adventure and Other Craziness

Medical websites can be dry, so I added this page to shake things up a bit. Herein lie a few of my nonprofessional pursuits. Some border on the absurd, if not crazy, but meant to provide you with a better idea of who I am. You might ask, "Why would anyone, let alone a doctor, write material unrelated to medicine, paint and draw in a bizarre fashion, or run in his bare feet? It makes no sense! And what does any of this have to do with medicine?" Answer: all of us humans harbor within us some degree of weirdness. I'm just putting it all out there.

Besides, patients often ask about my non-medical interests. And I share these to help them discover that same joy in their own way a bit of unconventional therapy, you might say, that goes beyond the colder, scientific realm of hardcore medicine. I stay curious, try to keep a sense of humor and risk falling flat on my face. I blend in my passion for art and writing, displaying some of my art where I work. I write and illustrate the educational content used in the office and online, and published several articles, all in an unorthodox style with my own unique weirdness.

Any worthy goal a person aspires to achieve shapes his or her character, especially when it comes with great effort and toil, or seems insanely crazy, even on the verge of stupidity. This is just another testament of human capability, that human potential in all its forms is unlimited. Along with the study of medicine, these "other" interests remind doctors like myself of the sublime beauty around us, and being well-rounded helps us provide the best possible care for the people we are privileged to serve.
